Purple Boy, acrylic portrait painting, amateur art, fauvist

An expressive, almost fauvist portrait of a young man. With quick brush strokes and some impasto work, this handsome boy with dark hair and eyes seems to jump out of his purple background while he calmly contemplates something off in the distance. I get the impression he is a good listener and perhaps more than a little soulful. Acrylic with possible medium on board, in very good vintage condition. Measures 20" tall and 16" wide. Not framed.

The artwork and the artist are something of a mystery; no name or dates on the work, only the information that the artist is a recently deceased woman and her friend donated her many portraits to a charity shop. A lucky find but also a pity as I think this mystery amateur artist had a very distinctive style that deserves to be seen and remembered.
