A dreamy pastoral scene of a young horse and mother, grazing in a fenced field next to a church and village. With thick impasto brushstrokes and swirling pastel colors, it reminds me a little of the whimsical style of Chagall. The village houses seem to float into view for a good look at horses living their best life.

Signed Eisel Ruhland, which I believe is Klara Eisel Ruhland, a German artist famous for her animal and country scenes. Her other paintings appear in Museum der Stadt Eschborn and she was an active painter in the 1940's in Frankfurt. How her gorgeous painting of horses got to a flea market in Maryland, I'll never know, but it could go home with you!

Stretched canvas, not framed. Measures 23.75" tall and 15.5" wide. In good vintage condition except for paint chips missing on the top and bottom right corners. I frankly don't find them distracting and I hope you won't either. It's truly a gorgeous bit of mid century animal art.
